Like the environment grows strong timber,
we set down strong foundations for growth into the future.
Like the Kowhai, we continue to grow academically, socially, culturally and through sport.
Like the Kereru, we confidently seek out the branch that grows the best fruit.
Elsthorpe is a rural school situated in an incredibly beautiful bush setting. We have a proud history of over 120 years and provide numerous unique learning opportunities for all our children from new entrants to Year 8.
We nurture the development of all our learners by building a partnership with our families to get to know the whole child, and how they learn best.
We are a PB4L school who promote a positive attitude to learning and life through our values of BRAVERY, RESPECT, TOGETHERNESS and RESPONSIBILTY!

Kia ora whānau,
On Friday we have our Pet Day and School Opening
Parking and Drop-off:
Whānau can use the ring road to drop off items or pets, but parking on Kenderdine Road is preferred. At 9.20 a.m, a student will place cones at the school entrance so we can finish setting up for the opening.
Uniform:
All students must wear their school uniform for the opening, which will begin at 9.30 a.m. Students may bring a change of clothes to put on once the formalities are complete.
Animals and Crafts:
As students arrive, all animals must be on the field or tied to the school fence.
All crafts and baking are to be taken directly to the Hall/Library and must be clearly labelled with the student’s name and class (labels will be available). Unlabelled items will not be judged.
Photos:
If you are unable to print photos for your child’s Pet Day or Photography section, please email them to your child so they can print them at school. Alternatively, photos may be emailed to principal@elsthorpe.school.nz before Friday.
Ngā mihi,
Tim Waite
Message from the Ministry of Education for whānau
Measles cases in Aotearoa
Recent measles cases linked to overseas travel have been reported in Te Tai Tokerau and Queenstown. Cases were active in the community while infectious and there is a risk of measles circulating there, and more widely in Aotearoa.
Points to share with parents, caregivers and the school community:
If anyone in your whānau has measles symptoms keep them home and contact a doctor or Healthline urgently on 0800 611 116.
Kia ora whānau,
Due to planned industrial action by teachers, Elsthorpe School will be closed on Thursday 23rd October. Please note that the school will not be open for instruction or supervision on this day.
We appreciate your understanding and support, and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Normal classes will resume on Tuesday 28th October.
Ngā mihi,
Elsthorpe School Board of Trustees
Whānau who require supervision for their child on the day, and have exhausted all other options, can contact Nicola Wall, who will help to access back-up care.
