Head Lice (Nits)
Kia ora whānau,
Once again - we’ve had a reappearance of nits at school. We know it is very hard to keep on top of but let's do our best to get this seen too. Our Health Nurse is always available if you require further help. We appreciate everyone's vigilance in helping us to get rid of these nasty little creatures.
We know many families are doing their best to stay on top of this, so a collective effort to check and treat would really help us put an end to them, for the benefit of all our tamariki and their whānau.
If you require assistance to treat your child for head lice (nits) don't hesitate to get in touch with the office: office@elsthorpe.school.nz.
Head lice (nits) are very common. They are a nuisance but are not a risk to public health. Head lice are small insects that lay their eggs (nits) on strands of hair.
Symptoms of head lice
Head lice are small flat insects, about 2 to 3 mm long. They live on the skin of a person’s head where the hair grows from (the scalp). Head lice lay their eggs (nits) on strands of hair.
Scratching, scratch marks or a rash can be a sign that your tamariki has head lice. But not all tamariki complain of itchy heads.
The main sign of head lice is being able to see the insects or nits by checking closely for them.
Find out if you or your tamariki have head lice
At least once a week, check the scalp for head lice insects and eggs, especially:
